AHS students receive recognition on Spanish exam

Congratulations to several Spanish students from Arlington High School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2019 National Spanish Examinations.

All Honors Spanish students at AHS take the National Spanish Exam and 358 total students took this challenging test this year. Amongst these students, they earned a total of 12 Gold, 14 Silver, and 32 Bronze medals along with 74 Honorable Mentions.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 146,000 students participating in 2019.”

The National Spanish Exam is a contest, and students whose scores are at or above 75% are recognized by their placement in the state. The following students placed in their level/category in the state:

Level 1

Students from AHS have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers James Babb (IV Honors), Emily Land (I Honors), Kelly Robinson (III Honors/AP), and Erin Weekley (II Honors).

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12 and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
