For at least the past 10 years, Arlington Elementary School has held a spring art show to help raise funds for the school’s art department, and the community has once again shown its generosity.

AES Art Teacher Courtney Juneau said Tuesday's event brought in more than 100 parents and nearly $2,000 in sales. They will use the money to buy art materials, like canvas, clay, paint and paper.

“If you think about, every piece of paper our kids draw on cost money,” Juneau said. “Art supplies add up quickly, so we rely on the sales from this art show to help carry us through the year.”

Juneau said they began working on the show in January; every student in the school – more than 800 – had their artwork framed and on display.

“We’re one of the few elementary programs in the area that can support all the projects we do and that’s because of this show,” said Meredith Bertling, also an AES art teacher. “I think the kids being able to see their artwork framed is just amazing for them. My own 8th-grade daughter still has her art from this show, and she takes pride in it.”
