The Arlington Tigers Swim Team wrapped up a great 2018-2019 season last Saturday with a strong showing at the Shelby County District Championship Meet.

The Shelby County District Championships was held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the St. George’s Independent School Compton Aquatic Center in Germantown, TN. For those unfamiliar with competitive swimming, championship meets consist of two sessions, a preliminary session and a finals session. Preliminaries were held Saturday morning, with swimmers competing for one of 16 top spots in their respective events. Those swimmers who successfully placed in the top 16 in the morning’s session returned on Saturday night to compete in the finals.

Each finals event consists of 2 heats: a consolation final where the morning preliminary qualifiers who placed 9th through 16th in their event(s), swim for finals placement, and a championship final where the top eight swimmers compete for the top spot in each event.

Although a small team by district standards at 28 swimmers, the Tigers had 14 swimmers qualify for this year’s District Championships. The Shelby County district is a very competitive district with many swimmers who compete year-round in the USA Swimming league. It is hard for small teams like Arlington to stand out when swimming against larger teams, but our swimmers swam very well and had many students qualify for finals events. Of the 14 swimmers who qualified to swim the District Championship meet, eight Arlington swimmers placed in the top 16 in their respective events and returned to swim that evening in 14 individual finals events and four relay events.

Those swimmers who competed in individual finals events and their final placement were:
