Arlington High School Football standout Kenny Walker is heading to North Carolina next fall to play for Wake Forest.

The senior running back was surrounded by family and friends Wednesday as he signed his letter of intent to play for the Demon Deacons football team.

"I'm really excited and thankful for everyone who came out to support me," Walker said after the signing. "Working with this [Arlington] team has been great. I'm glad I was able to work with this group of guys throughout my high school career. It feels like family."

Walker captured many headlines this year for his performances on the field and racked up 156 touchdown points and ran for more than 1,300 yards for a season total. He received offers from MTSU, Arkansas State, Indiana State, UT Chattanooga and a host of other schools, but ultimately, Walker says he was drawn to Wake Forest for "having the best of both worlds."

"It has great academics, great sports and everyone felt so passionate about being there," Walker said. "I love the coaches. I love the players that I met. I just can't describe how I felt when I was there, so I'm excited to join the team."

AHS Coach Adam Sykes knew Walker would be an explosive player from the moment he saw him play in middle school, but he says Walker's ability goes beyond athletics.

"Everybody saw the football player he was on the field on Friday nights, but the maturity that he's gained over the past four years is equally impressive to me," Sykes said. "Wake Forest is getting a very, very good football player and also a very good young man. The sky's the limit for him."
