The Arlington High School Knowledge Bowl Team, led by Joel Wilhite, was honored at the February ACS Board of Education meeting for having another outstanding season.

The team, which now includes more than 30 AHS students, has competed in several competitions around the region and state and have made significant strides over the past few years.

In January, five of the students won the Channel 3 Knowledge Bowl Tournament, each winning a $7,500 scholarship. Both A and B teams also recently made it to the playoffs in the Bartlett tournament, with the A team taking home the top prize.

The team also placed 2nd at the Hutchison Tournament in the fall.

"Mr. Wilhite and the Knowledge Bowl students continue to make a name for themselves in the region and state," said Superintendent Tammy Mason. "They have worked tremendously hard over the past few years, and their recent win in the Channel 3 tournament shows how competitive and academically talented these students really are."

Five AHS teams will head to the White Station NAQT Tournament on March 2 where they hope to win and qualify for the NAQT national competition in Atlanta. They'll also compete at another national tournament in New Orleans in May.

Spencer Dougan, one of the team's star players, will attend Dartmouth College next fall. He is one of several AHS Knowledge Bowl members to attend competitive schools, including Harvard, MIT, Washington University in St. Louis, Vanderbilt, Emory, Tulane, NYU and Swarthmore.
