Things to Know Before School Begins

Things to Know Before School Begins
Posted on 08/13/2020
We're excited to welcome back our students for the 2020-2021 school year! This Back-To-School Hub is designed to help you find everything your family needs to be ready for the new year.
The implementation of our Health & Safety protocols will be instrumental this school year as we continue to face COVID-19. Teachers and staff members will work with students to ensure all safety measures are being followed, and they will encourage them to practice healthy hygiene.

But healthy habits begin at home! Parents, please help our teachers and employees by talking to your children about the importance of wearing masks, proper handwashing and practicing 6-foot social distancing.

Be mindful of the following protocols:

Did you check your child's temperature?

Parents will be expected to check their child's temperature every day before arriving at school, as suggested by the Tennessee Department of Education.

Students should stay home if their temperature is at or above 100.3º F or if they are experiencing any of the following COVID-19 symptoms:

  • Shortness of breath or difficultly breathing
  • Unexplained cough
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea

For the safety of our community and children, please DO NOT send your child to school if they are experiencing any one of these symptoms.

Did you grab your face mask before leaving home?

ACS will require face masks to be worn at all times during the school day, including inside the classroom and even when 6-foot social distancing is being maintained.

Students will receive one (1) cloth face mask during the first week of school. Schools will also have disposable masks available while supplies last.

Students may wear their own masks, including "Gaiter" style masks. Any writing or emblems on the mask must be school appropriate and not cause a disruption to the learning process.

See the ACS Mandatory Face Mask Update by clicking here.

Don't forget your water bottle!

Communal water fountains will be disabled this school year. However, we have added multiple bottle water fillers at each school to help students stay hydrated.

Students will receive a fillable plastic water bottle during the first week of school.

Note: Although they are not banned, please consider using a plastic water bottle instead of metal. Water bottles made of metal make incredibly loud noises when dropped.  A plastic water bottle will help teachers minimize these possible disruptions.

Be Mindful of Floor Directional Signage

Please show your children the following images so they are aware of school protocols before the first day of school.

Floor Traffic Signs

Walk This Way

Traffic "paws" have been laid on the floors throughout your child's building to help the flow of traffic. Students will be expected to follow these signs as they navigate the building. Teachers will work with students the first week of school to teach them this new protocol.

Stand Here Signs

Stand Here

"Stand Here" signs have been placed throughout the building to ensure 6-foot social distancing is taking place.
